By now, most of you have seen the news that Joe Biden (really, Joe Biden’s handlers) picked old spirit cooker John Podesta to take on the duties formerly carried by John Kerry, who resigned in mid-January as the White House “climate envoy.” If you’re unaware, that job is a completely made-up assignment that has no formal portfolio for the US government, and thus did not have to be confirmed by the US Senate.
It was basically a gig that enabled Kerry to fly all over the world on private jets (yes, he did fly mainly on private jets despite his false testimony to the contrary last year) to events like COP28 and last month’s annual World Economic Forum in Davos.
At those events, Kerry would always be assigned a speaking slot on the agenda, in which he would drone on and on and on about his views on climate change. Sometimes, he would even pretend to commit the US to various multi-lateral agreements, an act for which he possessed no real, formal authority. And of course, he would participate in fabulous $2,000 meals while opening fabulous $1,000 bottles of wine every evening. Because that’s required at such events.
