Incoming crash anyway, in my opinion.

A weakened grid due to infrastructure mismanagement,

an extended dependence on intermittent 'green' energy, and

a huge flux of people and businesses moving from Blue States to Red.

Then throw in what I consider an unhinged race toward artificial intelligence.

None of these factors are independent of each other.

Some day Americans will woefully regret what these data centers are going to be used for.

Anyone read "1984" lately?

Feels more like we're headed for "Brazil" though.

Democrats are already winning battles against Data Centers. Crucifying innocents through pure goverment power will not be forgiven ever! Third world dictator tactics comes to Georgia. Find an alternative or just stop this evil.

It's not Ds who are winning the battle... it's a bipartisan issue. I'm a VERY Conservative R and I helped lead the fight against utility solar in my county (that was to feed a proposed data center). I, along with my fantastic team, figured out the whole solar scam and what it was for 4+ years ago. We stopped 3 solar projects in early 2024. No new ones have applied but we still watch.

Right now we are fighting the same fight as Coweta GA. A 115 mile transmission (the largest power one in the state), that will run across 9 RURAL counties to feed the massive complex of DCs in NoVA. ALL the counties are against it and we are coordinating, have set up a 501c3 to raise money and are fighting the giant. We have some smart people in those 9 counties... the DCs and power companies need to listen to David. I plan to share his post.

I think its always clothed in the promise of "jobs".

Who wants to tell the press they turned down an opportunity to bring more jobs to their area?

Jeff Walther's avatar

With Big Tech running it, it will only be jobs for foreigners.

David, thanks for this post. The DC developers NEED to listen to you. Being self contained would slow development down but make them less vulnerable in many ways.

I may be wrong but this sudden RUSH looks like the same thing that happened with utility solar... they need to slow down and actually evaluate the WHOLE picture. Do we NEED ALL of these? Do they NEED to be everywhere? What is the end purpose? The Chinese are good at taking others ideas but are not innovators, so why do we think they are so far ahead of us, because some techie like Neville Roy Singham, say so? He has absolutely NO interest in good things for the US. He's not to be trusted about anything.

Here's our transmission line project in VA. It won't affect my property (about 1/2 mile away as planned) but it will affect many along the way.

+10 to not trusting what Big Tech Weenies say and doubly so for Indian Big Tech Weenies.

The data center problem is easily resolved by requiring the data center to generate their own power on site. No transmission lines no grid connection. Then make them use closed loop systems for cooling. The number of these projects will dwindle when the developer is forced to cover all costs with their own money. These are just the latest fad scams trying to abscond with taxpayer money. It’s also important to start holding politicians accountable for backing these projects as they jam their pockets full of payola cash. Recall these social leeches. Just say no to wind, solar, batteries, data centers - recall a supporting politician today.

Last week the Epoch Times had an article about some KY farmers who a data center company approach them with an insane offer well over the value of their farm -- a farm that has been in the family for well over 100 years. I think it was about $25M they were offered, but the owners said NO!

And the context of this story is that same area has some former industrial brown soil sites that are near a river (versus pull from the ground aquifer) that would serve the company perfectly. Yet they want the farmland instead. And the local govt is in bed with these rats.

I can't say what I REALLY want to say. It's neither polite nor Christian.

Large portions of the public have already come to distrust the organizations that are bringing us AI. I.e. what is commonly referred to as Big Tech.

Big Tech has spent 30 years exporting our jobs to other nations and when that was inconvenient, rigging the legal system in the USA to import millions of foreigners to replace US workers and keep wages depressed.

The starting wage for an excellent graduate in EE is the same today as it was in 2000. About a 50% decrease in real terms. What kind of shortage causes a decrease in price? Yet, Big Tech has lied and lied and lied claiming non existent shortages in STEM workers for the last 30 years. Today, USA new graduates in STEM can't find jobs because there is a foreigner waiting to take every single one, and a foreigner on a Visa in charge of hiring.

The people driving AI are the same people who have demonstrated a persistent, unremitting and unrepentant pursuit of a feudal structure for society and have shamelessly lied to further their ends.

No one should trust their motives on anything that touches the welfare of the USA.

I believe the Data centers need to begin with a fully self contained power system. Their power demands are so large they can expect resistance from those who must share power systems.
